On September 8, 2024, the symposium "Eurasian Studies: Hot Issues and Academic Frontiers" was held in Lanzhou University. The seminar was hosted by the Shanghai Cooperation Organization Research Center of Lanzhou University and co-organized by the Institute of Central Asian Studies of Lanzhou University and the School of Politics and International Relations of Lanzhou University. From Peking University, Fudan University, Jilin University, Sichuan University, Shaanxi Normal University, Liaoning University, Heilongjiang University, Northwest Normal University, Xi 'an International Studies University, Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, China Institutes of Contemporary International Relations, Shanghai Academy of Social Sciences, Xinjiang Academy of Social Sciences, Shanghai University of Political Science and Law, Zhejiang Shuren University, Academy of International Trade and Economic Cooperation, Ministry of Commerce, Lanzhou University, etc More than 50 experts and scholars attended the seminar.
The opening ceremony was presided over by Wei Jinshen, deputy director of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization Research Center of Lanzhou University. Zhu Yongbiao, Dean of the School of Politics and International Relations of Lanzhou University and Deputy Director of the Institute of Central Asian Studies of Lanzhou University, and Zeng Xianghong, director of the Center for Shanghai Cooperation Organization Studies of Lanzhou University and deputy director of the Institute of Central Asian Studies of Lanzhou University, addressed the opening ceremony successively. In his speech, Zhu Yongbiao welcomed the delegates on behalf of the School of Politics and International Relations of Lanzhou University, and introduced the development of the school and the Institute of Central Asian Studies of Lanzhou University. He hoped that all units would continue to strengthen cooperation and jointly promote the research on hot issues and academic frontiers in the Eurasian region. In his speech, Zeng Xianghong pointed out that the current situation in Eurasia is complicated, and it is of great practical and theoretical significance to strengthen academic research on hot issues in Eurasia, hoping to promote the integrated development of theoretical research and policy research on Eurasia through the seminar.
The conference will have four topics: "The study of Eurasian issues", "the development of the SCO", "the impact of the Russia-Ukraine conflict", "the evolution of the situation in Central Asia", and two forums for young scholars. The participants fully expressed their views on the topics and conducted in-depth discussions and exchanges. Zhu Yongbiao, together with Cui Zheng, Executive Vice President of the China Institute of Open Economy, Liaoning University; Wang Zhi, Executive Director of the Center for Circumcaspian Studies, Xi 'an International Studies University; Chen Xiaoding, Deputy Dean of the School of Politics and International Relations, Lanzhou University; Chen Dongjie, Deputy Director of the Center for Indian Studies, Shaanxi Normal University; Luo Yixuan, a young teacher from the School of Politics and International Relations of Lanzhou University, presided over the sub-topic discussion. The closing ceremony was presided over by Chen Yiyi, deputy director of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization Research Center of Lanzhou University. In her concluding speech, Zeng Xianghong fully affirmed the academic quality of the seminar and hoped that the academic circle would further strengthen the study of Eurasian issues, improve the degree of the study of Eurasia, help the development of China's Eurasian diplomacy, and make greater contributions to Eurasian scholars in serving the major strategic needs of the country and constructing the discourse system of philosophy and social sciences with Chinese characteristics.
