The Third "Northwest-Northeast Forum" was Successfully Held

On September 24, 2022, the 3rd "Northwest-Northeast Forum" and "The Challenges and Responses of Great Power Relations in the Context of International Crisis", jointly organized by the School of Politics and International Relations of Lanzhou University and the School of Administration of Jilin University, were held online.

Experts and scholars from Jilin University, Lanzhou University, Tongji University, Fudan University, Beijing Foreign Studies University, Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, Guangdong University of Foreign Studies, Beijing International Studies University, Tianjin Foreign Studies University, Shandong University, East China Normal University, Shanghai Institutes for International Studies, Party School of the Central Committee of C.P.C, Xi’an Jiaotong University,Dalian University of Technology gathered online to have a discussion on four topics: the international effects of Russia-Ukraine conflict,new trends in major-country diplomacy,the situation in Northeast Asia and Chinese diplomacy, and geopolitics and security.

Professor Yu Haiyang, Vice Dean of School of Public Administration at Jilin University, presided over the opening ceremony. Speeches were delivered by Professor Wang Jinguo, Dean of our school and Professor Zhang Xianming, Dean of School of Public Administration at Jilin University. After that, all scholars and experts took a group photo.

Professor Zeng Xianghong, Vice Dean our school, chaired the academic discussion part.

Professor Wu Zhicheng, Vice Dean of International Strategic Institute of the Party School of the Central Committee of C.P.C, Professor Men Honghua, Dean of School of Politics and International Relations at Tongji University, and Professor Liu Jun, Vice Dean of School of Politics and International Relations of East China Normal University, gave speeches on Russia-Ukraine conflict and China-Russian relations.

Professor Wu Zhicheng suggested that the Russia-Ukraine conflict has exacerbated the instability of the world and has had an unpredictable impact on the international community. Professor Men Honghua presented that China should improve the national strategic system under the background that the world is undergoing changes unseen in a century. Professor Liu Jun gave an analysis of how to promote China-Russian relations in the changes.

There are two sub-forums(Ⅰ&Ⅱ) and each forum has two sub-topics respectively.

Professor Huang Fengzhi from the School of Public Administration at Jilin University presided fist half of the sub-forumⅠ, which discussed “Russia-Ukraine Conflict and its International Effects”

The second half of Sub-forumⅠ, entitled "New Trends in Major-country Diplomacy", was presided by Professor Guo Rui from the School of Public Administration at Jilin University.

The first half of sub-forumⅡ, "The Situation in Northeast Asia and Chinese Diplomacy," was hosted by Professor Chen Xiaoding, Vice Dean of our school.

Meng Xiangchen,assistant researcher of editorial department at Northeast Asia Forum, presided the second half of sub-forumⅡ, "Geopolitics and Security Governance".

Finally, Meng Xiangchen chaired the closing. The "Northwest-Northeast Forum" providing a platform for many experts and scholars to conduct academic exchanges around their own research fields and the international community. The third forum discussed the four important issues concerning the world and China, and participants formed a certain consensus on them.
