On October 27th, 2020, Professor Zhu Yongbiao form our school were interviewed by People's Daily (Overseas Edition) regarding on the situation in Afghanistan.

During the interview, Professor Zhu Yongbiao pointed out that the settlement of the Afghan issue is still facing many difficulties at present. On the one hand, internal violence in Afghanistan still continued, which has affected the prospect of future peace in Afghanistan. On the other, with the United States trying to reduce its investment in Afghanistan remains unchanged, Afghanistan may face the problem of "resource vacuum".

Professor Zhu Yongbiao analyzed that the United States is the biggest external factor of the Arab issue. The U.S. should withdraw its troops orderly, prevent the further escalation of domestic violence in Afghanistan, and create a favorable external environment for the internal negotiations between the Afghan people, rather than the contrary. The U.S. manipulate the withdrawal of troops and the process of peace talks, which has seriously affected the reputation and prestige of the Afghan government and has dealt a greater blow to the security forces of Afghanistan. This has triggered the Taliban " to promote talks by fighting" and enable Taliban to believe that continuing fighting or attacks can force the government to yield." Professor Zhu Yongbiao pointed out that "as far as Afghanistan is concerned, all parties have not really reached an agreement on the key issues of Afghanistan’s peace, such as goals, methods and processes. Instead, all parties regard negotiation as a golden opportunity of political speculation. Thus, there is still a long way to go before a peaceful Afghanistan can be achieved. "
